A REUNION

The pandemic lockdown (confinement) in France lasted roughly eight weeks. To be honest, I was fine with it for the most part. It felt a little uncomfortable at first being mandated to stay home, but as I’ve posted, I made use of the one-hour per day of exercise permitted within 1 km of one’s home as well as the occasional shopping excursion. I enjoy my alone time and have discovered the monk in me is real.

I have been teaching a course to fellow colleagues since January on French grammar and everyday expressions to help them along. We continued through le confinement with videoconferencing. But finally, after we were “liberated,” we decided to get together. And Jim, who lives just north of my village on a rather large property, offered to host us for lunch. My contribution was a prune & Armagnac tart. It turned out pretty well.

We cut the lesson short because spouses (and dogs) were invited. The time together was glorious – our first real social outing since déconfinement began May 11.

The weather could not have been nicer though it did get a bit hot as the afternoon wore on (88 F). Jim’s property is outstanding with flowers everywhere. A perfect day with great food, good wine & champagne, and the best company. It was one of the best days I can remember ever in France.
