A DAY IN TOULOUSE

I have a bad habit. Rather can coming to my laptop and writing for you, I will often just post on Facebook. Of course those stories are never long, but there is no rule regarding length for blog posts either. So this is a re-post and if you’ve seen it on Facebook, my apologies. Nonetheless, it is another story that I think is worthwhile to tell and as soon as I had posted it to Facebook, I told myself that I should have put the story here. The habit is one I need to break.

The date was Thursday, December 9, 2021.

I had an interesting day today.

I was invited to be interviewed by future interpreters attending the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès Mirail Campus, about an hour away. It was a two-hour class and a lot of fun. The students mostly probed my background in addiction medicine and were very curious about addiction in general, even wondering what I thought about social drinking in France.

Following that I had an errand to run and ended up visiting the Christmas Marché in the Place du Capitole and even caught a few Santas in the meantime.

Pictured below is one of the market stalls featuring some very aromatic food drawing me in that I couldn’t resist. I have been fastidiously dieting since July and lost 26 pounds. That was before I went to Paris. Naturally I ate well in Paris entertaining my nephew and so some of those pounds returned (about six of them). So returning home I got back on the low-carb diet and am slowly making progress once again. But the food smelled so good and I hadn’t had lunch and… I had a pork sausage (“Saucisse de Toulouse”) with caramelized onions in a pita wrap. It was worth it.

As of today, December 20, I am down once again to the 26 lb. mark. There are roughly another 10 pounds to go on my low-carb diet. On verra… (We shall see) though I know the holidays are going to make this difficult.

  1. During our traveling years we planned our trips/overnights around the various markets. They were a great way to start the day and often provided us with a picnic lunch while on the road.

    Miss those days…

Soooo, it was a MUST that you experience that Toulouse sausage pita and all the other food treats in Paris.

    Love all the photos.
