I moved to rural France for my retirement this last February fulfilling a lifelong dream.
I chose rural vs. urban based on several past experiences. My village has a historic 14th century church whose bells ring every quarter hour. Despite the fact that there is no longer a seminary with monks in residence, these bells also still call their ghosts to prayer three times a day. I could find it annoying, I suppose, but I’d rather take the perspective that I am observing and sharing an illustrious history. It is part of the charm. I also find that when busy with other things, I simply tune them out. I’m with Maurice!
